D Day 80th Anniversary at Watton Sports Centre and Loch Neaton

Thursday June 6th will be the 80th Anniversary of the D Day Landing in Normandy when 156,000 British, American, Canadian, Polish and Free French troops stormed the beaches in Normandy and started the downfall of Hitler’s Germany.

From 17.00 at the Sports Centre we will be showing information about D Day and from 19.00 onward we will remember good old British Wartime foods with free Bangers and Mash (while our stocks last!)

We will have cadets from several organisations, Phoenix Pipes and Drums and Mike Wabe, our Town Cryer, to make proclamations.

At 20.40 we will ask everyone to join our procession down to Loch Neaton where Mike will read the official proclamation and our new Mayor, Don Saunders, will say some words about D Day. At 21.15 we will join in the nationwide lighting of the beacons with the lighting of the Loch Neaton beacon.

Loch Neaton Bowls Club is now reopened for the 2024 Season. If you would like to try your hand at bowls at this friendly club pop along on Tuesdays or Thursdays at 2.00 pm to meet the members and try out this great game.

Watton United Win against Harleston Town

Against all the odds Giant Killers Watton United had a 2 all score at final time and then went on to win on penalties. Everyone at Watton Sports Centre is so proud of our local team.

As the winning penalty was scored the crowd went wild!!! Here’s what they say on their Facebook page:

Beating a Step 5 team, 3 divisions above us.
In front of more than 400 unbelievable fans!
One of those days in football you will just never forget!
So, a huge thank you to all involved yesterday!!
So much hard work and preparation from the Club and Watton Sports Centre to allow the day to be so successful!
It has been a long time since the Club had so many supporters and spectators but just shows how much of an impact you can have!!
5 teams from higher divisions defeated this season just shows we are a Sleeping Giant!
This Club has so much potential and so much to look forward to!!

Watton United FC vs Harleston Town FC

Saturday 9th March Watton United are at home to Harleston Town in the Norfolk Senior Cup. This will be Watton’s highest position in the cup for a quarter of a century so let’s give our home team the support they deserve. Kick Off at 14.30.

Fancy the football but the rest of the family don’t? No problem because we also have Grays FunFair on site running from 1.0pm to 9.30pm. #yoursporty…the place for all the familiy!
