How it All Began

Watton Sports exists thanks to representatives of local sports clubs, who met in August 1968 to discuss the possibility of building a sports centre for the town. Following fundraising and approval of planning permission, the first turf was cut in 1973 and the centre officially opened a year later in September 1974. Through immense local fundraising and effort, the centre later expanded significantly over the course of several phases.
From the 3rd of February 1975, Watton Sports Association & Recreation Centre became a registered charity, number 268128. Today, the centre is self-funded and run by a committee of trustees and volunteers for the benefit of the local community.
